World Homelessness Day, observed annually on October 10th, shines a spotlight on the global crisis of homelessness. This day serves as a powerful reminder of the millions worldwide who lack safe, stable housing.

In Rockingham, we're marking this important day with our "Rough it for Rockingham" event on October 5th. Participants will experience a night on the streets, gaining insight into the challenges faced by those experiencing homelessness. This event is more than just awareness - it's about direct action. All proceeds benefit St. Brendan's Homeless Respite, directly supporting our local homeless community. We're calling on everyone to get involved - join as an individual, form a team, fundraise, or donate.

World Homelessness Day isn't just one day of awareness, it's a call to year-round action. Join us in making a tangible difference in the lives of our most vulnerable neighbors.

 St Brendan's Anglican Church Warnbro established their Homeless Respite in July 2015, offering hot meals and showers to the homeless and needy in Rockingham. Every Friday from 10am to 1.30pm, a two-course lunch is served at the Guide Hall, Safety Bay. The respite provides a welcoming environment for those experiencing homelessness, isolation, and vulnerability. Services include hot showers, emergency relief, laundry facilities, and community information. A self-serve refreshment table encourages socialization in a non-threatening setting. Takeaway options are available for those preferring not to eat on-site. This holistic, volunteer-run program has seen increasing participation from both recipients and volunteers. All donations are greatly appreciated. 

Safer Lyfe Pty Ltd, a collaboration between Kris Hooper, Roxanne Sherrell, and Owen Farmer, is on a mission to revolutionise support for the homeless. We're not just talking about change - we're making it happen through research, innovative product development, and community-driven events.

We're all about teamwork, partnering with local not-for-profits to make real improvements in people's lives. Our focus? Reducing suffering, boosting safety, and helping rough sleepers find housing, with a big emphasis on mental health.

Our team's got the chops to make this happen. Owen's been fighting for the homeless, as a community advocate for decades. Kris brings solid management and marketing skills to the table. And Roxanne? despite battling illness for over a year, has channeled her passion for helping the homeless into making Safer Lyfe a reality. Her experience in event planning, management and disability services, coupled with her unwavering commitment to do better for our homeless community, drives our mission forward.  At Safer Lyfe, we're all in on advocacy, building connections, and providing practical, hands-on support. It's not just a job for us - it's our passion to be proactive and engage our community in meaningful ways.
